how does a baseball player create effortless power?
Effortless Power and Pressure?
Louisiana State University Head Baseball Coach Skip Bertman's teams won 5 NCAA Division 1 championships in the 1990's.
In a recent interview with Brian Cain, Skip talked about pressure:
"The honest reality is pressure exists...fear of failure exists...when it grips you...it will slow your hands...it will slow or throw off your arm slot...or take your mind out of the game! But, pressure is real in college ball!"
When a player experiences pressure, anxiousness or worry their movements automatically become tighter and more mechanical. A hitter will experience that he 'muscled out' the hit but it took a lot of effort. For a pitcher it's the same - they put more effort into their throw and their motion and the result will usually be off in some way.
When the player's mind is anxious, thinking or worrying they put the emergency brake on their motion.
When any hitter (from little league to pro) is having a good day they will always describe it in the same way: "My swing felt smooth and effortless, I wasn't thinking at all, the pitch looker bigger or slower, I didn't feel rushed, everything felt natural, my timing was great and I didn't even hardly feel my bat meet the ball and the ball just flew!"
This player demonstrated smooth effortless tension-free power!

Players learn the program through a series of physical challenges. If they are a hitter they will be hitting the whole time...if they are a pitcher they will learn while pitching.
The player must experience first hand how to produce smooth effortless power! The final step is to be able to produce smooth effortless power in any situation.
